Writer and actress Winsome Brown will debut her new solo play This Is Mary Brown at La MaMa's First Floor Theatre, set to run from June 11-28 with an official June 14 press opening.

Written and performed by Brown, the play offers a memoir of Brown's mother and Irish family, complete with both love and dysfunction. Brad Rouse directs the production, which will follow up its run at La MaMa with a stint at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

The play is described as follows: "Winsome Brown channels her wickedly funny Irish mother, her Alaskan frontiersman father, and her engaging family to tell the story of a mother's life. With humor she applies a light touch that reveals Mary's struggles with aging and alcoholism, her war stories of a 45-year marriage with children, and the sad grace of her death."

Brown's past theatrical credits include Women: The War Within at Baryshnikov Arts Center, Shakespeare's Sister at La MaMa, and the Andre Gregory/Wallace Shawn adaptation of The Master Builder, later directed on film by Jonathan Demme.
