Center Theatre Group celebrates the opening of the world premiere of Joe Iconis’ rock-’n’-roll musical.
The Black Suits, a new musical featuring a score by Joe Iconis (“Broadway, Here I Come!” from NBC’s Smash) and a book by Iconis and Robert Emmett Maddock, opens tonight at the Center Theatre Group/Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City, California.
The tuner follows four boys as their suburban Long Island garage band prepares for the St. Anne’s Battle of the Bands competition. For one summer, they find refuge in the “transformative coolness of rock ‘n’ roll” as teenage angst and relationship struggles fill their lives with drama. John Simpkins helms a cast, featuring Annie Golden (Xanadu), Harrison Chad (Caroline, or Change), Coby Getzug (Spring Awakening), Jimmy Brewer, Veronica Dunne, and Will Roland. Jennifer Werner lends her choreography with music direction and orchestrations by Charlie Rosen.
TheaterMania caught an exclusive sneak peek of the production during dress rehearsal, as The Black Suits performed in all their rockin’ glory. Take a look at our photos of the cast and crew.
The Black Suits runs at the Kirk Douglas Theatre through November 24. For tickets and more information, click here.
