Robert Askins’ dark comedy stars Steven Boyer and Geneva Carr.
Hand to God, a dark comedy that premiered off-Broadway and ran at Ensemble Studio Theatre and MCC Theater's Lucille Lortel Theatre, celebrated its Broadway opening night at the Booth Theatre on April 7. Previews began March 12.
Written by Robert Askins and directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel, Hand to God tells the story of Jason, a young member of the Christian Puppet Ministry in Cypress, Texas, whose life is thrown into chaos when Tyrone, his hand puppet, takes on a dangerous personality of his own.
The complete MCC Theater cast, made up of Steven Boyer as Jason and Tyrone, Geneva Carr as Margery, Marc Kudisch as Pastor Greg, Sarah Stiles as Jessica, and Michael Oberholtzer as Timmy, has moved to Broadway.
Following the performance, the cast and their guests, an illustrious list that included Tyrone's pals Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Avenue Q's Princeton and Kate Monster, as well as humans Jeremy Jordan, Megan Hilty, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Joel Grey, and Norbert Leo Butz, headed to Urbo to celebrate.
