Gretchen Egolf, Carole Shelley, and Heather Tom will star in the world premiere of The Secret Letters of Jackie and Marilyn, which will play the Pittsburgh Public Theatre, November 9-December 10. The production will be directed by Leonard Foglia.

The play, written by Mark Hampton and Michael Sharp and based on Wendy Leigh’s book, depicts a friendship between two of America’s most glamorous women who turn to each other for solace and salvation. Foglia’s directing credits include the Broadway revival of On Golden Pond, Master Class, and the regional production of Paper Doll, which was written by Hampton.

Egolf, who will play Jackie, previously understudied the role of Jackie Kennedy in the Broadway play Jackie, in which she also played Lee Bouvier, Christina Onassis, and Patricia Kennedy Lawford (who passed away yesterday). She also starred in the Broadway revival of Ring Round the Moon and was recently seen Off-Broadway in All This Intimacy.

Shelley, who will play Patty, Marilyn’s assistant and confidante, won the Tony Award for her work in The Elephant Man, and received Tony nominations for Absurd Person Singular and Stepping Out. Her other Broadway credits include The Norman Conquests, Noises Off, Cabaret, and Wicked. Earlier this summer, she starred in the Barrington Stage Company production of Ring Round the Moon.

Tom, who will play Marilyn, appeared on Broadway in Prymate. She is best known for her Emmy-winning role as Victoria Newman on the CBS daytime drama The Young and the Restless and is currently wrapping up her role as Kelly Cramer on the ABC soap opera One Life to Live.
