Edward Albee and Bill Irwin to Reunite at Riverspace

On Saturday, November 17, the Conversations at Riverspace series will reunite Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning playwright Edward Albee with Tony Award-winning actor Bill Irwin as the two discuss the playwright’s 50 year career. Conversations at Riverspace allows audiences to listen in on a conversation between two artists familiar with each other’s work.

A three time Pulitzer Prize recipient, Albee earned the honor for his plays A Delicate Balance, Seascape, and Three Tall Women; he won Tony Awards for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and The Goat. Irwin, who appeared on Broadway in 2002’s The Goat, earned a Best Actor Tony Award for his portrayal of George in the 2005 revival of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? He appeared in the revival opposite Kathleen Turner.

The November 17 dialogue between Albee and Irwin is one of many events honoring the acclaimed dramatist, who celebrates his 80th birthday on March 12, 2008. In the NY Metropolitan area, “The Albee Season” will include productions of Peter and Jerry at Second Stage Theatre (Nov. 11 – Dec. 30), Me, Myself and I at the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, NJ (Jan. 11 – Feb. 17), The American Dream and The Sandbox at Cherry Lane Theatre (previews begin March 11, 2008), and Occupant at Signature Theatre Company (May 6 – June 29).
