Manhattan Theatre Club has announced three productions, along with initial casting for its 2012-2013 season.
Boyd Gaines and Richard Thomas will star in the American premiere of Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s new version of Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People, to play MTC’s Broadway house, the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre beginning September 4 with an opening on September 27. Doug Hughes will direct this play, about a doctor (Boyd) who experiences unexpected community opposition after discovering toxic contamination in the water used at the local baths.
Walter Bobbie will helm the New York premiere of Terrence McNally’s Golden Age, to run Off-Broadway at New York City Center Stage I beginning November 13, and opening December 4. The play chronicles the backstage drama at one of the most fabled first nights in operatic history.
Edie Falco will star in Liz Flahive’s world premiere play, The Madrid, to be directed by Leigh Silverman at New York City Center – Stage I beginning February 5, and opening February 26. The play centers on Martha (Falco), a kindergarten teacher with a life many would want: a loving husband, a devoted daughter. But when she leaves it all behind, it’s up to her daughter Sarah to pick up the pieces.
