New York City
The new musical welcomes a fresh star.
It was announced today that Domingo Quiñones will join the cast of the off-Broadway musical I Like It Like That at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre beginning December 1. He takes over the role of Roberto, currently played by Grammy nominee Tito Nieves, reprising his collaboration with writer and producer David Maldonando, with whom he worked together on ¿Quién Máto a Héctor Lavoe?
Directed by Waddys Jaquez, I Like It Like That tells the story of the Rodríguez family living in New York City’s East Harlem in the early 1970s, when music was the proudest expression of "El Barrio." The production takes the audience on a historical musical journey amid neighborhood volatility and social activism.
Quiñones is a singer, composer, producer, and actor. He replaced Roberto Lugo in the Luis "Perico" Ortiz orchestra with whom he recorded four albums, including La vida en broma, In Tradition, and Perico. His solo albums include Domingo es mi nombre, Pintando Lunas, Mi Meta, and Se necesita un milagro, which was selected as one of the most influential albums by the National Foundation for Popular Culture of Puerto Rico. Onstage he performed in Jesus Christ Superstar (with Olga Tañón, Michael Stuart, and Tito Auger), and starred off-Broadway in ¿Quién Mato a Héctor Lavoe? His films include Héroes de Otra Patria and Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony’s El Cantante.
He joins a cast that currently features Rossmery Almonte (Tita), Caridad De La Luz (China), Chachi Del Valle (María Luisa, Babilonia and La Lupe), Shadia Fairuz (Carmen), Quique González (Carlos), Sofia Klimovsky (Paula), Angel López (Rafa), Yesenia Santiago (Understudy/Ensemble), and Gilbert Velázquez (Juan).
Performances run through the end of January 2017.
