Emily Blunt stars as the title character in the Disney musical sequel.
It was announced today that Disney has moved up the release date of its movie musical Mary Poppins Returns by one week from Christmas Day to Wednesday, December 19.
Mary Poppins Returns is directed by Rob Marshall, with a screenplay by David Magee and from a story by Magee, Marshall, and John DeLuca. The film stars Emily Blunt as the title character, with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Pixie Davies, Joel Dawson, Nathanael Saleh, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, and Angela Lansbury in supporting roles. Dick Van Dyke, who played Bert in the original film, will also appear.
The story is described as follows: "In Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael's three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives."
