Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, and Steven Levenson will put to paper the making of their Tony-winning musical.
According to the Associated Press, Grand Central Publishing will issue a book about the making of the Tony-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen. The project comes on the heels of Grand Central Publishing's last Broadway-related success with the book Hamilton: The Revolution, which documented the making of the 2016 Tony-winning musical Hamilton.
The Dear Evan Hansen book, titled Dear Evan Hansen: Through the Window will be released November 21 and will offer a behind-the-scenes account of the show's creation. The book is written by the musical's Tony-winning creative team of Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and will include personal memories, photographs, unreleased lyrics, and the Dear Evan Hansen libretto.
With a score by Oscar winners Pasek and Paul (La La Land), and a book by Levenson (Masters of Sex), Dear Evan Hansen is described as follows: "All his life Evan Hansen has felt invisible. To his peers, to the girl he loves, sometimes even to his own mother. But that was before he wrote the letter — that led to the incident— that started the lie — that ignited a movement – that inspired a community — and changed Evan's status from the ultimate outsider into the somebody everyone wants to know. But how long can Evan keep his secret? And at what price?"
The production opened at Broadway's Music Box Theatre on December 4, 2016, and earned a total of six Tony Awards including Best Actor in a Musical (Ben Platt), Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Rachel Bay Jones), Best Book of a Musical (Levenson), Best Score (Pasek and Paul), Best Orchestrations (Alex Lacamoire), and Best Musical.
