ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy was named Outstanding Drama Series and NBC’s Days Of Our Lives was named Outstanding Daily Drama Series at the San Francisco ceremony of the GLAAD Media Awards, which were held on Saturday, June 2.

Glee star Dianna Agron hosted the event, which featured appearances by Tony Award winner Rita Moreno and stage veterans Guillermo Dlaz, Mario Lopez, and Kerry Washington.

Shonda Rimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, and Scandal, was given the organization’s Golden Gate Award for helping to increase the visibility of LGBT characters on television. Grey’s Anatomy has been heralded for its love story of lesbians Callie and Arizona, played by Tony Award winner Sara Ramirez and Jessica Capshaw.

Days Of Our Lives has recently focused on the coming out of long-time character Will Horton (played by Chandler Massey). The series also features numerous stage veterans, including Ian Buchanan and James Reynolds.

Previous ceremonies were held earlier this year in New York and Los Angeles.
