Goodman Theatre has announced full casting for its upcoming 10th anniversary production of Regina Taylor’s Crowns, which will run June 30-August 5. Playwright Regina Taylor will direct.
Based on the book by Craig Marberry with photographs by Michael Cunningham, Crowns is a gospel-infused musical work, about Brooklyn-born Yolanda, who relocates to the South after the death of her brother and finds strength in the tales of the wise women who surround her.
Alexis Rogers (Jeanette), Pauletta Washington (Wanda), Marketta P. Wilder (Yolanda), and David Jennings (the preacher) as well as an ensemble comprised of Shari Addison, Melanie Brezill, Kelvin Roston, Yusha-Marie Sorzano, and Laura Walls will join previously announced cast members E. Faye Butler (Mabel), Felicia Fields (Mother Shaw), and Jasondra Johnson (Velma).
The design team will include Maya Ciarrocchi (projection design), Maruti Evans (set design), Karen Perry (costume design), Ken Posner (lighting design), and Richard Woodbury (sound design). Choreography is by Dianne McIntyre and musical direction is by Fred Carl.
