MCC Theater will present an evening with the creative team and cast members of the new musical, Coraline, which will provide a behind the scenes look at the process of bringing Neil Gaiman’s novel to the stage. Bill Goldstein will moderate the event, which will be presented at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on April 21 at 7 pm.
Participants will include composer Stephin Merritt, book writer and actor David Greenspan, director Leigh Silverman, and actresss Jayne Houdyshell, who will play the title role in the musical. The evening will include the first-ever public performance of one of Coraline‘s songs, performed on the ukulele and sung by Merritt, who is best known for his work with the band, The Magnetic Fields.
The musical is about poor bored 9-year-old Coraline’s disorienting journey into a perfected replica of her own world that rapidly turns nightmarish. The cast will also include Julian Fleisher, Francis Jue, January LaVoy, Elliot Villar, and William Youmans.
