“Tap Happy Tuesdays” will be judged by assistant director and choreographer Emily Morgan.
Broadway's Dames at Sea, which is currently in previews at the Helen Hayes Theater, has announced "Tap Happy Tuesdays." The weekly event will give tap dancers the chance to demonstrate their own original 30-second a cappella tap combination for assistant director and choreographer Emily Morgan and everyone in Times Square and possibly win a pair of tickets to that evening’s performance.
Tapping will begin in front of the Helen Hayes Theater at 6:45pm for the 8pm (September 29, October 6, October 13) curtain and at 5:45pm for the 7pm (October 20) curtain, and dancers of all ages are welcome to participate. A winner will be chosen by Emily Morgan each Tuesday to win a pair of tickets to that evening’s performance.
Each winner from the four weeks will be eligible to win the grand prize: walking the red carpet on opening night of Dames at Sea (October 22) and a pair of tickets to the opening night performance and after-party. For more information, click here.
Dames at Sea follows Ruby, fresh off the bus in Manhattan, as she gets her first New York musical role — only to find out, along with the rest of the cast, that the theater is about to be demolished on opening night. Featuring music by Jim Wise and a book and lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller, the musical is a parody of the 1930s Busby Berkeley-style movie musicals.
Leading the cast will be John Bolton (A Christmas Story) as The Captain/Hennesey, Mara Davi (A Chorus Line) as Joan, Danny Gardner (Lady, Be Good!) as Lucky, Eloise Kropp (On the Town) as Ruby, Olivier Award winner Lesli Margherita (Matilda The Musical) as Mona Kent, and Cary Tedder (Honeymoon in Vegas) as Dick. Three-time Tony Award nominee Randy Skinner (42nd Street) directs and choreographs the show's first-ever revival.
