CUNY Offers "Safe Havens for Playwrights"

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center of the City University of New York (CUNY) is offering “Safe Havens for Playwrights,” a series intended to introduce participants to well-established New York institutions that promote new writers for the theater. Attendees will become acquainted with the unique structure and mission of each organization, meet its artistic leaders, have the opportunity to encounter new voices in American theater, participate in discussions, and present readings of excerpts from their work.


New York Theatre Workshop will kick off the series on Monday, March 14 at 6:30pm with a presentation organized by artistic director Linda Chapman and members of the artistic staff. John Eisner and writers from the Lark Play Development Center will appear on Monday, April 11 at 6:30pm. New Dramatists, led by programs director Emily Morse and Playwrights Lab director John Steber Davis, will present on Wednesday, April 27 at 6:30pm. Joe Kraemer, literary manager and dramaturg The Julliard School, will speak on Wednesday, May 18 at 6:30pm; and the MCC Theater Playwrights’ Coalition, led by literary manager Stephen Willems and playwright development director Josh Hecht, will close out the series on Monday, May 23 at 6:30pm.
