Curt Hansen and Ryder Bach costar in the new rock musical.
Girlfriend, a new rock musical by Todd Almond (book) and Matthew Sweet (score), opened last night at Center Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theatre. Directed by Les Waters, the show follows two teenage boys growing up in Nebraska in the 1990s — one a social outcast and the other the quintessential jock. During the summer between high school graduation and the rest of their lives, they begin to explore a relationship and start a journey toward self-discovery. The musical's stars, Ryder Bach and Curt Hansen, got to celebrate the West Coast opening alongside rock star Courtney Love.
Performances of Girlfriend run through August 9.
