Check Out Photos of NAATCO's Henry VI

The National Asian American Theatre Company (NAATCO) has released photos from the first production of its 28th season: Henry VI, presented in two parts, adapted from William Shakespeare's historical epic and directed by Stephen Brown-Fried.

Currently in previews, Part 1, "Foreign Wars," officially opens on Tuesday, August 21, and Part 2, "Civil Strife," opens on Wednesday, August 22. Performances continue through September 8 at the Mezzanine Theatre at A.R.T./New York Theaters. Check out some of the photos above and below.

"Shakespeare's Henry VI is the story of a great nation's decent into barbarism and cruelty," said Brown-Fried in a statement. "It is a study of how the experience of a problematic foreign war erodes civil discourse at home, and how that erosion allows political self-interests to take hold and send a country hurtling into civil war. The play's resonances with our world today are terrifying; it serves as a cautionary fable on the fragility of empire, and on the horrors that human beings are capable of enacting. The fact that this story will be told by NAATCO with an entirely Asian American cast vastly expands the project's significance. A story can be made to resonate and radiate with new power when it's told by actors who don't look the way the audience may have expected the characters to look. It contributes to an ongoing nationwide examination of who we, as theatre-makers, endow with the right to speak for all of America."

The cast includes Rajesh Bose (Disgraced), Ron Domingo (The Romance of Magno Rubio), John D. Haggerty (Les Misérables), Wai Ching Ho (Daredevil), David Huynh (Pan Asian Rep's No-No Boy), Michelangelo Hyeon (NYC debut), Anna Ishida (Jason Craig and Dave Malloy's Beowulf — A Thousand Years of Baggage), Paul Juhn (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Vanessa Kai (KPOP), Mahira Kakkar (Theatre for a New Audience's The Winter's Tale), Mia Katigbak (Awake and Sing!), Jon Norman Schneider (Lincoln Center Theater's The Oldest Boy), James Seol (KPOP), David Shih (NBC's Blindspot), Sophia Skiles (A Dream Play), and Kim Wong (Public Theater's Henry V).

The creative team includes Kimie Nishikawa (scenic design), Nicole Slaven (costume design), Reza Behjat (lighting design), Toby Algya (sound design), Brittany Coyne (prop design), and Orlando Pabotoy and Kimiye Corwin (movement directors).
