Philadelphia Theatre Company will open its 2012-2013 season with the world premiere of Stars of David, a new musical based on Abigail Pogrebin’s book, which is comprised of interviews about Jewish identity with some of America’s most noted figures.
Directed by Gordon Greenberg, the piece is conceived by Aaron Harnick, with a book by Charles Busch. The composers for the project, who will set the interviews to music, include Susan Birkenhead, William Finn, Marvin Hamlisch, Sheldon Harnick, Jeanine Tesori, Tom Kitt, Maltby and Shire, Michael Friedman, Marilyn & Alan Bergman, Amanda Green, Nathan Tysen and Chris Miller, and others.
Dates and casting for the production are still to be announced.
Stars of David received a staged reading earlier this season as part of the PTC@PLAY program.
