The Theatre for a New Audience world premiere is Adrienne Kennedy’s first new play in a decade.
Theatre for a New Audience announced the cast and creative team for its world premiere of Adrienne Kennedy's new play He Brought Her Heart Back in a Box, running January 18-February 11, 2018, at Polonsky Shakespeare Center, with opening night set for January 30.
Juliana Canfield and Tom Pecinka will star in the production of Kennedy's play, the Funnyhouse of a Negro playwright's first new work in a decade. Under the direction of the previously announced Evan Yionoulis, the creative team features Christopher Barreca (set design), Montana Levi Blanco (costume design), Donald Holder (lighting design), Justin Ellington (composer and sound design), and Austin Switser (video design), with Cole Bonenberger production stage manager and Shane Schnetzler assistant stage manager.
"Set in Georgia and New York City in 1941," according to a press release, "He Brought Her Heart Back in a Box is a heartbreaking, nail-biting memory tale of segregation, theatrical yearning, and doomed love. The action, driven by parallel monologues and a tour through a storeroom of charged images, braids together the indignities of Jim Crow, rising Nazism, sexual hypocrisy, Christopher Marlowe, and the lingering shadow of a terrible crime."
