Daniel Aukin directs the new drama at Playwrights Horizons.
Melissa James Gibson's new play, Placebo, celebrated its opening night at Playwrights Horizons on March 16. Directed by Daniel Aukin, Placebo began performances on February 20 and will run through April 5.
Tony Award nominee Carrie Coon (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Gone Girl) leads the cast of Placebo as Louise, a medical student working on a placebo-controlled study of a new female arousal drug. As her work in the lab navigates the blurry lines between perception and deception, those same questions seem to pertain more and more to her life at home.
The company also includes William Jackson Harper (All the Way), Florencia Lozano (Winners), and Alex Hurt (Scenes From a Marriage). The production features scenic and costume design by David Zinn, lighting design by Matt Frey, and sound design by Ryan Rumery. Kyles Gates is the stage manager.
