Mulligan, an Academy Award nominee for the film An Education, plays Kyra Hollis, a London schoolteacher who, on a wintry evening, receives a visit from her former lover, restaurateur Tom Sergeant (Nighy), whose wife has recently died. As they attempt to rekindle their relationship, they must contend with conflicting ideologies that stand in the way. Beard completes the cast as Tom's college-age son, Edward.
