Bruce Willis and Laurie Metcalf Open Tonight in Broadway's Misery

William Goldman's stage adaptation of Oscar-winning film Misery opens on Broadway tonight at the Broadhurst Theatre. Bruce Willis makes his Broadway debut in the lead role of romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a car crash by his "number-one fan," Annie Wilkes, played by two-time Tony nominee Laurie Metcalf. The story follows Paul after he wakes up captive in Annie's secluded home where she forces him to write a novel to her specifications.

Goldman's film adaptation of Misery, based on Stephen King's celebrated novel, was directed by Rob Reiner and released in 1990, starring James Caan and Kathy Bates, who won an Academy Award for her performance as Annie Wilkes. Will Frears directs the stage production, which made its world premiere at Bucks County Playhouse in the fall of 2012 and is set to play a 16-week limited Broadway engagement.
