BroadwayHD has announced that it will film A Night With Janis Joplin live tonight at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles. The performance will coincide with the anniversary of Janis Joplin's untimely death 48 years ago, and it will debut on the streaming service in January 2019 to usher in the 50th-anniversary celebration of Woodstock and her performance at the legendary concert.

The production stars Mary Bridget Davies, who originally played Joplin in its Broadway run at the Lyceum Theatre in 2013-14, and earned a Tony nomination for her performance. Davies is playing the role in the current La Mirada Theatre run, which will end on October 7.

Written and directed by Randy Johnson, A Night With Janis Joplin centers on Joplin and her meteoric rise to fame. On the way to the top, it stops to admire and learn from the stars who influenced Joplin, including Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone, and Bessie Smith. The show treats audiences to some of their favorites including "Summertime," "Piece of My Heart," "Cry Baby," and "Me and Bobby McGee."

The BroadwayHD production is produced by Stewart F. Lane, Bonnie Comley, and directed by David Horn, executive producer of PBS's Great Performances for WNET.
