Altar Boyz, the hilarious and touching new musical comedy about a Christian boy band, opened on Tuesday, March 1 at Dodger Stages to heavenly reviews. Afterwards, the company partied at Crobar in Chelsea. Here are the boyz in all their glory: (l-r) David Josefsberg, Tyler Maynard, Ryan Duncan, Andy Karl, and Scott Porter. (To access Dan Bacalzo’s interviews with the cast and director, click here; and to access David Finkle’s review of the show, click here).
The young actors who play the Boyz are super talented in the singing, dancing, and acting departments — but if you haven’t yet seen the show, you might think that they were cast for their looks alone! Here are solo shots of each of them: Scott Porter, who plays Matthew…
…Tyler Maynard, who plays Mark…
…Andy Karl, who plays Luke…
…Ryan Duncan, who plays Juan…
…and David Josefsberg, who plays Abraham, the only Jewish member of the group. (You’ll have to see the show to find out how he became one of the Altar Boyz.)
Here’s a shot of Andy Karl with his wife, Orfeh (Saturday Night Fever on Broadway, Love, Janis Off-Broadway)…
…and here’s Altar Boyz director Stafford Arima (right) with Janine LaManna (Seussical, The Look of Love, the New York Philharmonic’s Candide).
