Danish actress Birgitte Hjort Sørensen (Pitch Perfect 2, Vinyl) will make her Broadway debut as Madame de Tourvel in the Donmar Warehouse production of Christopher Hampton's Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Donmar's artistic director Josie Rourke helms the production, which is set to run from October 8-January 22, with an opening night on October 30 at the Booth Theatre.

Sørensen joins a cast that will star Tony Award winners Janet McTeer (La Marquise de Merteuil) and Liev Schreiber (Le Vicomte de Valmont), as well as Tony nominee Mary Beth Peil (Madame de Rosemonde). The actress previously appeared on the Donmar stage in Rourke’s 2014 production of Coriolanus opposite Tom Hiddleston.

In 1782, Choderlos de Laclos' novel of sex, intrigue, and betrayal in pre-revolutionary France scandalized the world. Two hundred years later, in 1985, Christopher Hampton's stage adaptation became an award-winning sensation in London's West End and on Broadway, followed by the Academy Award-winning film Dangerous Liaisons, starring Glenn Close, John Malkovich, and Michelle Pfeiffer.

The play is described as follows: "Former lovers, La Marquise de Merteuil and Le Vicomte de Valmont compete in games of seduction and revenge…Merteuil incites Valmont to corrupt the convent-educated Cecile de Volanges before her wedding night but Valmont has other designs. His target is the peerlessly virtuous and happily married Madame de Tourvel."

"Birgitte is one of the most magnetic, sensual and intelligent actors I've ever worked with and the idea of introducing her to New York audiences, and to Broadway is tremendously exciting," said Rourke. "It’s thrilling to have an American, an English, and a Danish actor as the central love triangle of Les Liaisons Dangereuses and I am delighted that Birgitte is going to bring her fine sensibility and unique talent to that trio."
