The bio-musical retroactively announces that it will play its final performance December 22.
Lady Day, the off-Broadway musical chronicling the life of American jazz singer Billie Holiday, played its final performance yesterday, December 22. The show, which began its run on September 19 and played a total of 94 performances at the Little Shubert Theatre, made no prior announcement of its closing.
Written and directed by Stephen Stahl, the production starred Dee Dee Bridgewater in the title role and told the story of the legendary Holiday attempting to make a final comeback performance. The show included a number of Holiday's hit songs including "Good Morning Heartache," "A Foggy Day (In London Town)," "Them There Eyes," "Strange Fruit," "My Man," "God Bless the Child," and "Mean to Me."
