Philadelphia Theatre Company’s 2026-27 season will feature three mainstage productions and a family-friendly theatrical event.

The 52nd season will open with the Philadelphia premiere of Liberation by Bess Wohl, running October 9-25. Directed by PTC co-artistic director Taibi Magar and produced in association with Baltimore Center Stage, Liberation is set in a small-town Ohio rec center in the early 1970s, where a group of women gather for a consciousness-raising meeting. The play moves between past and present, exploring what those conversations made possible and what remains unfinished.

The season also includes the Philadelphia premiere of the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning play Purpose by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. The production, running February 5-25, 2027, is directed by Amina Robinson and produced in association with Geva Theatre. When Nazareth Jasper returns home during a winter storm, he is pulled back into a family shaped by legacy, expectation, and long-held secrets in this play that examines the weight of family history and the challenge of forging one’s own path within it.

Tony Award-winning actor BD Wong will star in a reimagined solo performance of Tennessee Williams’s The Glass Menagerie, adapted by Taibi Magar and Wong. Directed by Magar, the play runs April 9, 2027-May 2, 2027. In this production, Wong embodies every member of the Wingfield family.

This year, PTC will also present TheaterWorksUSA’s production of The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System, designed for schools, families, and young audiences, December 4-5. This musical adventure brings the book series to life through an interplanetary journey led by Ms. Frizzle and her students, with original direction and choreography by Connor Gallagher.

This June will also include a free and open-to-the-public sneak peek at the world premiere musical La Guagua 47, written by Philadelphia civic leader Alba Martínez and directed by Laurie Woolery, on June 20, and the inaugural festival of the Foundry at PlayPenn, Philadelphia’s preeminent playwright collective, spotlighting new work by the next generation of theater artists, co-produced by PTC in March 2027.
