Ari Brand will play the title role in Aaron Posner’s stage adaptation of Chaim Potok’ My Name is Asher Lev off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre. Gordon Edelstein, who directed Brand in the role at the Long Wharf Theatre earlier this year, will direct the production, which will begin previews on November 8 in anticipation of an official opening on November 28.

Set in post-war Brooklyn, the play centers on a boy prodigy who feels compelled to pursue his life as a painter – at any cost and – and against the will of family, community and tradition. Additional casting will be announced in the near future.

Among Brand’s other credits are Broadway Bound, directed by David Cromer, Black Tie, off-Broadway, and Romeo and Juliet at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

The creative team will include scenic designer Eugene Lee, lighting designer James F. Ingalls, and costume designer Ilona Somogyi, along with John Gromada, who will provide original music and sound design.
