The organization’s annual Musical Celebration of Broadway honored the legendary star of stage and screen.
The Drama League's 31st Annual Musical Celebration of Broadway, honoring Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award winner James Earl Jones, was held at the Pierre Hotel on February 2.
The black-tie gala included a musical tribute to the legendary actor, performed by dozens of stars from both Hollywood and Broadway. The guest list featured his costars from the current Broadway revival of You Can't Take It With You, as well as Tyne Daly (It Shoulda Been You), Kelsey Grammer (Finding Neverland), and Alan Cumming (Cabaret), who will present the first-ever Arts Ally award to CBS’ The Good Wife for its support of the Broadway community. The annual event will help fund the Drama League's educational initiatives for promising young artists.
James Earl Jones currently stars as Martin Vanderhof (Grandpa) in the Broadway revival of You Can't Take It With You. His illustrious career includes Broadway productions of Fences (Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play), "Master Harold"…and the Boys, The Great White Hope (Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play), Othello, and Driving Miss Daisy, as well as the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise, among several other plays and films.
