Angelica Page has officially replaced Cybill Shepherd in the role of Alice Russell in the Broadway production of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, at the Schoenfeld Theatre, and will play the part for the remainder of the show’s run, which concludes on Sunday, September 9.

Shepherd has left the production due to her mother’s illness, and has released a statement which reads: “My time on Broadway in The Best Man has been a once in a lifetime experience that I am devastated to have to cut short. Also once in a lifetime, is my opportunity to be with my mother at this time in her life. I am sad to leave the production, but grateful to be my mother’s daughter a little while longer.”

Page has been part of the company of The Best Man since the beginning of this revival, playing the role of Catherine (which will now be played by Amy Tribbey). She has previously performed on Broadway in Side Man and her many other stage credits include Psycho Therapy, Vivat Vivat Regina, Death and the Maiden, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, From Riverdale to Riverhead, and Anna Christie. As previously reported, she will be performing her solo show Turning Page, a tribute to her famous mother Geraldine Page, at the Cherry Lane Studio Theatre, in October.
