The Tony Awards Administration Committee, based on the recommendation of the American Theatre Critics Association, will honor American Players Theatre (APT) in Spring Green, Wisconsin, with the 2026 Regional Theatre Tony Award.

The award, recognizing a regional theater company that has displayed a continuous level of artistic achievement contributing to the growth of theater nationally, is accompanied by a grant of $25,000 from City National Bank.

APT is a professional theater located just outside Spring Green, a rural town with a population of 1,573, 40 miles west of Madison, Wisconsin. Now in its 47th season, APT has a flagship, 1,075-seat outdoor amphitheater and a 201-seat indoor theater. Each season, APT produces nine plays in rotating repertory.

APT, founded by Randall Duk Kim, Anne Occhiogrosso, and Charles Bright on the belief that the great plays of the Western Canon were best performed in the manner intended by the playwright, has a mission to perform timeless, challenging, poetic texts, with Shakespeare at the center, to the broadest audience possible. The company’s first performance was Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream on July 18, 1980.

Today, the company is led by artistic director Brenda DeVita and managing director Sara Young.

This year’s Tony Awards be hosted by P!NK at Radio City Music Hall on June 7.
