
Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) has completed the purchase of Live Nation’s UK Theaters (excluding their one third share of The Dominion Theatre). With this acquisition and a new theater being completed in Aylesbury, ATG will have a total of 40 venues.
Among the theaters that ATG has acquired are The Lyceum, currently home to The Lion King, and Apollo Victoria Theatre, where Wicked is playing. Additionally, ATG will now control venues in Edinburgh, Manchester, York, Birmingham, and Oxford. ATG’s existing venues includes the West End’s Comedy, Donmar Warehouse, Duke of York’s, Fortune, Phoenix, Piccadilly, Playhouse, Savoy Trafalgar Studio 1 and Trafalgar Studio 2, along with regional theaters throughout the U.K. ATG’s holdings also extend to Sonia Friedman Productions (SFP), which has mounted, among others Othello starring Lenny Henry and the revival of La Cage Aux Folles, currently starring John Barrowman, and First Family Entertainment.
ATG has also announced that former BBC Director General Greg Dyke will be joining the company in the new role of Executive Chairman. Sir Eddie Kulukundis OBE will remain as Life President.
