Almost Famous Musical to Make World Premiere

Tom Kitt and Cameron Crowe’s adaptation of Crowe’s 2000 film will join a new Michael John LaChiusa-Graciela Daniele musical and more as part of the Old Globe’s 2019-20 season.

The Old Globe has announced its 2019-20 season, and among its three world premieres is Almost Famous, the previously announced stage adaptation of Cameron Crowe's 2000 film featuring music by Tom Kitt, lyrics by Kitt and Crowe, choreography by Lorin Latarro, and direction by Jeremy Herrin. The production will run September 13-October 20, with opening night set for Friday, September 27.

The two other world premieres are Michael John LaChiusa's The Gardens of Anuncia (May 8, 2020-June 14, 2020), a new musical based on the life and career of Graciela Daniele that is directed and choreographed by Daniele herself; and Nathan Englander's new comedy What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank (May 28, 2020-June 28, 2020), directed by Barry Edelstein.

The season will also include five West Coast premieres: Heather Raffo's Noura (September 20-October 20); Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen's Ebenezer Scrooge's Big San Diego Christmas Show (November 23-December 24), directed by Greenberg; Madeleine George's Hurricane Diane (February 8, 2020-March 8, 2020); Kate Hamill's adaptation of Little Women (March 14, 2020-April 19, 2020), directed by Sarah Rasmussen; and Selena Fillinger's Faceless (March 28, 2020-April 26, 2020), directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch.

In addition, Ruben Santiago-Hudson's Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of August Wilson's Jitney will run at the Old Globe January 18, 2020-February 23, 2020, with opening night set for Thursday, January 23, 2020.
