After All These Years: The Musicals of Al Tapper Sets Limited Off-Broadway Run

After All These Years: The Musicals of Al Tapper will have a four-week engagement at AMT Theater this fall. Performances will begin September 9 ahead of an official September 10 opening.

Written by Tapper and Tony Sportiello, After All These Years is a musical memoir described as “part concert, part comedy, and part affectionate roast” detailing Tapper’s life and career as a composer, lyricist, playwright, author, producer, and filmmaker.

His musicals have been produced throughout the United States and internationally, and as a producer, Tapper received a Peabody Award for the PBS documentary Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy. He also served as producer for Broadway: The Golden Age, one of the definitive documentaries on Broadway history, as well as Ted Williams: The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived.

Performances of After All These Years will feature Tapper on screen with a live company performing his songs. The cast and creative team will be announced at a later date.

“The last time I was on a stage performing was when I was 15 years old and that was two lifetimes ago,” Tapper said. “But I knew I could not do it live as performing isn’t anything I ever wanted to do, but if I was videotaped and had a teleprompter I can easily do it. As far as the audiences are concerned, I just want to entertain them and hope that they enjoy my stories and more importantly enjoy my songs and maybe leave the theater humming one of the tunes. Of course, when they leave, I hope it’s my songs they are humming and not tunes from Oklahoma.”
