San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) has announced six of the seven plays that will comprise its 2003-2004 season.
The season will offer three world premiere productions: Les Liaisons Dangereuses, in a new adaptation by Giles Havergal (Travels with My Aunt) of the classic French novel; Levee James by Sherry Shephard-Massat, a love story set in rural America during the racially violent 1920s; and A Mother, a commissioned piece by Constance Congdon adapted from Maxim Gorky’s farce Vassa Zheleznova, which will star Olympia Dukakis.
Also included in the season will be a production of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House starring A.C.T. core acting company member René Augesen; a production of Samuel Backett’s classic Waiting for Godot starring core acting company members Steven Anthony Jones and Gregory Wallace; and the Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s production of William Saroyan’s comedy The Time of Your Life, directed by Steppenwolf ensemble member Tina Landau. The seventh production of the season, as well as the 2003-2004 Zeum Theater productions of new works, will be announced shortly.
The season will run from September 2003 through July 2004. Full-season subscriptions range from $67 to $487 and may be arranged by calling 415-749-2250 or by visiting the website www.act-sf.org. Tickets for individual productions be available beginning on August 24, 2003.
