5th Avenue Theatre Presents a New Adaptation of Paint Your Wagon
5th Avenue Theatre's production of Paint Your Wagon starts its run this evening.
The Lerner and Loewe classic depicts the great movement westward during the Gold Rush, and the rise and fall of a remote mining town in California. As men and women from across the country flood into the area in hopes of finding a better life and staking their claim to the American Dream, they find the booming population and close quarters bringing cultures clashing together. With passion, greed, and romance running rampant in equal parts, whether their gamble was worth it hangs in the balance. The show includes iconic songs such as "They Call the Wind Maria," "I Talk to the Trees," and "I Was Born Under a Wand’rin’ Star."
David Armstrong directs Pulitzer Prize nominee Jon Marans' new book adaptation. The show features music by Frederick Loewe and the original book and lyrics by Alan J. Lerner. Josh Rhodes choreographs with music direction by Ian Eisendrath. Tony nominee Robert Cuccioli plays Ben Rumson, alongside Kendra Kassebaum as Cayla, and Justin Gregory Lopez as Armando.
Performances will run through June 25.
