2018 Powerhouse Season to Include New Works by Duncan Sheik, Jason Robert Brown

The season will also include readings and workshop presentations of plays by Halley Feiffer, Jaclyn Backhaus, and more.

Vassar and New York Stage and Film has announced the lineup for its upcoming 34th Powerhouse Season in Poughkeepsie, New York, running June 22-July 29.

Among the selections are Alice by Heart (July 5-7), a new musical by Spring Awakening creators Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater; and The Connector (July 13-15), a new musical featuring music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown (The Bridges of Madison County) and book by Jonathan Marc Sherman (Women and Wallace). Both works will be presented in workshop presentations, along with Dan Finnerty's Little Orphan Danny (July 26-29) and Molly Beach Murphy, Jeanna Phillips, and Annie Tippe's Cowboy Bob (July 27-29).

The Waves (July 19-29), a new musical by Lisa Peterson, David Bucknam, and Adam Grown based on the novel by Virginia Woolf, will be one of two main stage productions to be performed in the Powerhouse Theater this summer. The other is Radio Island (June 28-July 8), a new play by Liza Birkenmeier.

The season will include many other new plays, including "Inside Look" workshops of Jaclyn Backhaus's India Pale Ale (July 6-8), ahead of its Manhattan Theatre Club world premiere this fall; and Annie Saunders and Becca Wolff's Our Country (July 13-15). In addition, the Readings Festival will return June 22-24 and July 20-22, and will feature readings of Halley Feiffer's The Pain of My Belligerence, Clarence Coo's On That Day in Amsterdam, Rupi Kaur's Milk and Honey, Donja R. Love's The North Star, Dan McCabe's The Purists, Stephen Nathan's The Dizziness of Freedom, and Geoffrey Nauffts and Jonatha Brooke's musical Melissa R. and Dorothy Sue, with additional projects to be announced.
