The Public Theater Production of Young Jean Lee's Straight White Men Set to Begin Previews

The new play stars playwright and performer Austin Pendleton.

The New York premiere of Young Jean Lee's Straight White Men begins performances tonight at Public Theater's Martinson Theater. Lee will also direct the play, which runs through December 7.

Straight White Men, a father-son drama, stars Austin Pendleton, who leads the company as Ed. The play also stars Pete Simpson as Drew, James Stanley as Matt, and Gary Wilmes as Jake. Set on Christmas, Ed and his three adult sons come together for trash-talking, pranks, and takeout, and end up confronting problems of identity and privilege.

The creative team includes David Evans Morris (scenic design), Christopher Kuhl (lighting design), Chris Giarmo and Jamie McElhinney (sound design), Enver Chakartash (costume design), Faye Driscoll (fight choreography and movement), and Mike Farry (dramaturgy).
