Broadway stars Sherry Boone and Harriet D. Foy and newcomer Brandie Sutton will be featured in The African American Spiritual, to take place on Sunday, February 5 at 3:30pm in Merkin Concert Hall at The Kaufman Center. The concert will feature musical direction by Darius Frowner.

The concert will take the audience through a four-part program: The Middle Passage and Slavery ("Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen," "Standing in the Need of Prayer"), Escape and The Underground Railroad ("Steal Away," "Great Day"), Northern Freedom ("Witness," "Hush! Somebody's Calling My Name") and the Heaven ("In Bright Mansions Above," "Swing Low," "Little David").

There will also be song from the opera, Ellen Craft, featuring lyrics by Sherry Boone and music by Sean Jeremy Palme, which is based on the true story of a 19th-century slave who escaped by posing as a white man traveling with his slave - who was really her dark-skinned husband, William.
