The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has announced that its productions of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew and John Fletcher’s 1611 sequel to that work, The Tamer Tamed, will be performed later this year during the RSC’s second residency at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Audiences will have the opportunity to see these plays performed together for the first time in 373 years. (The King’s Men, William Shakespeare’s company, performed them both at court on a single day in 1633.)

The Taming of the Shrew and The Tamer Tamed are directed by RSC artistic director Gregory Doran; they will begin performances at the Kennedy Center on December 12. Both productions are currently playing in repertory at the Gielgud Theatre in London’s West End. Doran and his company, which includes Alexandra Gilbreath and Jasper Britton, received a 2003 Olivier Award for Special Achievement in acknowledgment of their work.
