Jonathan Larson's Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning rock musical Rent will return to New York City next month in a 5th Floor Theatre Company production at Long Island City's Secret Theatre. Performances are set to begin September 23 in anticipation of the ground-breaking show's upcoming 20th anniversary, which it will celebrate next year.

Featuring music, lyrics, and a book by Jonathan Larson, Rent, inspired by Giacomo Puccini's classic opera La Bohème, tells the story of a group of friends in the East Village living and loving during the height of the AIDS epidemic. The musical opened off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop January 25, 1996, before making its official Broadway debut at the Nederlander Theatre on April 29 of that same year.

The 5th Floor Theatre Company production will be directed by Nick Brennan, with assistant direction by Jillian A. Goldstein, musical direction by Andy Peterson, and choreography by John de los Santos. The cast will include Bernard Holcomb as Collins, Mia Johnson as Joanne, Lindsay Lavin as Maureen, Nina Negron as Mimi,
André Revels as Benny, Dan Rosenbaum as Roger,
Daniel Clayton Smith as Mark, and
Anthony Wright as Angel. Reneé Adrienne Vito,
Micah Woods, Caitlin Kelly, Lynda DeFuria, Paola Hernández, Christopher Hlinka, Syville Padayao, and
 Darius-Anthony Robinson complete the ensemble.

The creative team includes set design by Carl Tallent, costume and graphic design by Spencer Sujjaporamest, and sound design by Jeff Rohr.
