It has just been announced that Broadway veteran Rebecca Luker will be joining the cast of the Tony-winning revival of Maury Yeston’s musical Nine on September 2.

Nine was directed by David Leveaux and also stars Mary Stuart Masterson, Chita Rivera, and Jane Krakowski. Luker will be stepping into the role of Claudia, the muse of film director Guido Contini (Tony nominee and Drama Desk winner Antonio Banderas), who sings the show’s haunting ballad, “Unusual Way.” Current star Laura Benanti will be leaving the role to appear in the Manhattan Theatre Club production of Richard Greenberg’s new play, The Violet Hour.

Luker has performed on Broadway in The Phantom of the Opera, The Secret Garden, and The Sound of Music, and received Tony Award nominations for two other appearances in the acclaimed Harold Prince revival of Show Boat and opposite Craig Bierko in Susan Stroman’s revival of The Music Man. She also performed the role of Clara in the acclaimed production of Passion as part of last summer’s Sondheim Celebration at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and was recently seen Off-Broadway in Keith Reddin’s quirky comedy Can’t Let Go.
