Rain Pryor Launches New "Needle Drop" Series at Kitty's Canteen
The Fried Chicken & Latkes playwright headed to the Lower East Side eatery to spin some records.
The Lower East Side soul-food eatery Kitty's Canteen kicked off its new monthly "Needle Drop" series with Rain Pryor, the actress and performer behind the acclaimed solo show Fried Chicken & Latkes.
The series of "classic beats and super happy hour eats" invites a celebrity guest to share his or her top three favorite albums of all time. Pryor's stage credits include The Billie Holiday Story, Ella, Meet Marilyn, The Vagina Monologues, The Exonerated, and The Who's Tommy. She has been seen on television in Head of the Class and Rude Awakening.
In the award-winning Fried Chicken & Latkes, Pryor examines her life as the daughter of comedian Richard Pryor, and growing up African-American and Jewish in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is currently running at Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre in Harlem through June 28.
