2010 Tony Award nominee Alfred Molina, currently starring on Broadway in Red, emceed the Theatre for a New Audience’s 30th Anniversary Gala, which was held at The Powerhouse at the American Museum of Natural History, on Monday, May 10.
Tony Award-winner Julie Taymor and Oscar-winner Elliot Goldenthal were honored with the Samuel H. Scripps Award, which was presented by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Corigliano and Shakespeare scholar Jonathan Andrew Bate.
Bass-baritone Eric Owens, who created the title role in the world premiere of Goldenthal’s Grendel, performed from that opera. Live music was also provided by the Jazz Museum in Harlem All-Stars.
Among the event’s special guests were actresses Didi Conn and Sigourney Weaver.
