Newsies Tour Adds New Song

A new song by composers Alan Menken and Jack Feldman is being added to the national tour of Broadway's Newsies. According to reports, a song the duo penned during a 2013 episode of the American Theater Wing's webseries "Working in the Theater."

The new song, which was debuted during the tour’s first stop in Schenectacy, New York, is performed by disabled Newsboy Crutchie. He sings the song, which is in the format of a letter to Jack Kelly, after being taken away to a juvenile detention center.

Newsies, which ended its Broadway run on August 24, won Tony Awards for Best Original Score Written for the Theatre and Best Choreography. In addtion to music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, it features a book by Harvey Fierstein. The musical, inspired by the 1992 film of the same name, tells the story of a group of tenacious newsboys at the turn of the last century who band together to form a union and lead a strike after selling prices are raised.
