Maxwell Caulfield has joined the cast of the Abingdon Theatre Company’s upcoming production of John Epperson’s My Deah in the role of Gator Hedgepeth. He replaces Bryan Batt, who was announced for the show but had to withdraw because he’s working on a TV pilot.

Freely inspired by Eurpides’ Medea and set in Mississippi, My Deah will have a limited run from October 13 through November 12 and will open officially on October 25. The play was seen in a workshop production at the Abingdon earlier this year, directed by Mark Waldrop and featuring Nancy Opel in the title role. In addition to Opel and Caulfield, the cast of the upcoming production includes Peter Brouwer, Lori Gardner, Michael Hunsaker, Geoffrey Molloy, Jay Rogers, and Kevin Townley.

Waldrop will again direct. The production team also includes Mark Simpson (sets and lighting), Ramona Ponce (costumes), and Matt Berman (sound). Author Epperson is also known as the performance artist Lypsinka.

Caulfield appeared on Broadway in An Inspector Calls. His most recent New York stage credit is Tryst, and he was previously seen Off-Broadway in My Night With Reg, Salonika, and Entertaining Mr. Sloane. He starred in the film Grease 2 and the TV series Dynasty.
