Drama Desk Award nominee Joely Richardson returns to the stage on October 7 in an off-Broadway revival of William Luce's The Belle of Amherst. Directed by Steve Cosson, the solo drama at the Westside Theatre will officially open October 19.
Richardson plays 15 different characters in the play, which offers a portrait of the life of Emily Dickinson through her writings, her encounters with friends and family, and her own amusing observations. The Belle of Amherst premiered on Broadway in 1976 and earned its star, Julie Harris, one of her five Tony Award wins.
The creative team includes Antje Ellermann (scenic design), David Weiner (lighting design), and Daniel Kluger (sound design). Don Gregory, who produced the original Broadway run, returns to produce this revival.
