Jesus Christ Superstar to Go on North American Tour in 2019
Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera will hit the road.
An acclaimed London revival of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar, which premiered at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in 2016, will embark on a North American tour in 2019.
Directed by Timothy Sheader and choreographed by Drew McOnie, the production will have set and costume design by Tom Scutt, lighting be Lee Curran, and music supervision by Tom Deering.
This iteration of Jesus Christ Superstar won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival, and sold out consecutive engagements in 2016 and 2017. Sheader's production will receive its American premiere later this month at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Jesus Christ Superstar is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary series of events during the final weeks in the life of Jesus Christ, as seen through the eyes of Judas. Reflecting the rock roots that defined a generation, the legendary score includes "I Don't Know How to Love Him," "Gethsemane," and "Superstar." A recent live television concert production starred John Legend.
Casting for the tour is still to be announced.
