Manhattan Theatre Club will present the Broadway and world premiere of Harvey Fierstein’s new play, Casa Valentina, this spring at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Directed by Joe Mantello (I’ll Eat You Last), the work will begin previews April 1 in advance of an April 23 opening.

For his first play in nearly three-decades, four-time Tony Award winner Fierstein takes us to a bungalow colony in the Catskill Mountains circa 1962 where a group of heterosexual men from white-collar professions and with families spend their weekends dressing and acting as women. When they’re given the opportunity to become an official organization, the group of “self-made women” must decide whether public recognition would help their lives or spell major disaster.

Casting and additional information will be announced in the coming weeks. The show is produced by special arrangement with Colin Callender, Robert Cole, Frederick Zollo, and the Shubert Organization.

Fierstein is the author of the Tony and Drama Desk Award winning Torch Song Trilogy and La Cage aux Folles, as well as Kinky Boots, Newsies, The Sissy Duckling, A Catered Affair, and Safe Sex, among many others.
