Savion Glover, Leslie Uggams, and Nancy Wilson will perform as part of a benefit concert gala entitled Spreadin’ Rhythm Around, to be presented at the Juilliard School’s Peter Jay Sharp Theater on Monday, October 6, at 6:30pm. George C. Wolfe will direct.

The benefit honors celebrated Juilliard alumnus, Luther Henderson, an American arranger, composer, and orchestrator who died in 2003. Henderson received Tony nominations for Best Score for Jelly’s Last Jam and Best Orchestration for Play On!, and worked on more than 50 musicals during his more than 60-year career. The concert, which will highlight Henderson’s music, will also feature the Canadian Brass Quintet, and additional performers.

The benefit gala concert will endow The Luther Henderson Scholarship Fund at The Juilliard School. The scholarship is open to students of color who are studying orchestration, arranging, conducting and composition.
