In other Williamstown news, star B.D. Wong experienced a serious injury a half-hour into the Williamstown Theatre Festival's opening-night performance of the one-man, 11-character tour-de-force musical Herringbone on Friday. The choreography called for him to slide along a piano bench, which he did, but the corner gashed his thigh. He completed the song by collapsing on the floor (that part was scripted), then arose to announce that he was bleeding heavily and needed to stop.
After a slight delay, director Roger Rees came out to announce that Wong had been advised to go the hospital for stitches. Wong, apparently still reluctant to quit, came on to apologize but was urged to get the necessary care. Rees praised Wong's decision to halt the show as indicative of "the kind of honest person he is." Fortunately, the injury turned out to be minor, and the actor resumes performances in the show today.
